Equestrian Trail | Chatfield State Park

Equestrian Trail | Chatfield State Park

Colorado, Dog Friendly, Hiking, United States
[caption id="attachment_214" align="alignnone" width="1000"] We entered the park from the east and got to see a lot of the park on the way to the trail.[/caption] The Equestrian Trail is an unpaved, 3.2 mile round trip hike at Chatfield State Park in Littleton, Colorado. The trail itself is relatively flat, with only 95 feet of elevation gain. It has sweeping views of the park itself and the Indian Peak Mountains, and is open to hikers, bikers and horses. We hiked this trail on a stormy day in early May and the views were still quite nice. There were a few bikers, but mostly foot traffic. We, sadly, didn't see any horses. The trail was relatively dry when we hiked it, but I would imagine that it becomes a mud pit quite…

Hiking Trails in Manuel Antonio National Park | Costa Rica

Hiking Trails in Manuel Antonio National Park | Costa Rica

Central America, Costa Rica, Hiking, Traveling
One of my favorite days from our Costa Rica adventure was our trip to Manuel Antonio National Park. Everyone I talked to recommended going there and I read that it was one of the best places to see a sloth. I also wanted to do some rain forest hiking, without getting too far off the beaten path. After 8 days exploring Costa Rica, Manuel Antonio did not let me down. Between the monkeys, sloths and adorable raccoons, to the breathtaking views and fresh air, I couldn't have asked for more. Okay, maybe for a baby sloth to have dropped down from a tree and jumped into my arms, so that I could knock holding a baby sloth off of my bucket list without being responsible for messing up its fragile skin oil.…

Smart Phone Car Mount for Under $10

Smart Phone Car Mount for Under $10

Product Reviews
As often as we road trip, it's hard to believe that up until last week, we didn't own a smart phone car mount. We tried a suction cup phone mount that I got for free with my old smart phone a few years ago, but after it repeatedly fell off the windshield and dented our screens, we tossed it. Well, after five road trips in the last four months, I decided it was time to do something about it. As much as we love having to navigate podcasts blindly or stop and wait for our phones to find their signal because they slipped under the seat, we thought the convenience of having our phone in a place where we could safely use it was worth at least looking into. Preferably one that didn't fall off…

Weekend Getaway | Sport Climbing at Shelf Road

Weekend Getaway | Sport Climbing at Shelf Road

Colorado, Rock Climbing, Traveling, Trip Report
A weekend getaway is sometimes just what you need to keep your weekend warrior sanity. [caption id="attachment_87" align="alignnone" width="1000"] Christian, Amber and Derek hiking into the Vault at Shelf Road[/caption] This past weekend, Christian and I jumped into the car with Savannah and headed down for a two-day weekend adventure on the Shelf Road limestone sport climbing cliffs located just outside of Canon City. We met up with two new climbing partners and spent Saturday at the Vault. We expected to find crowds of climbers and burning sunshine. Instead, we were greeted with a photogenic blanket of clouds and a crag all to ourselves. It's amazing that on a super crowded weekend, when every single campsite was taken and every single parking lot was overflowing, we were still able to find…

Weekend Getaway | Crack Climbing at Indian Creek

Weekend Getaway | Crack Climbing at Indian Creek

Rock Climbing, Traveling, Trip Report, Utah
"Every time we talk about this, it makes it harder to go to work on Monday morning..." His words describe a feeling I know all to well and were in response to a simple joke. I laughed at him as he huddled over a camping stove in the middle of a Moab city park, while he cooked us rice and beans for the 5 hour drive home. "We use to romanticize about the day we'd be cooking rice and beans out of the back of our van and here it is" I joked. But the truth is, we loved every moment of it. Even our dog, Savannah, laid in the sun with her tongue wagging smile, watching us as we tossed a Frisbee near by. Content with being in that moment, accompanying us…
